Situated in the county of Bedfordshire, the smallish town of Leighton Buzzard sits near to the boundary betwixt Buckinghamshire and Beds, on the Grand Union Canal, Leighton Buzzard has a resident population of around thirty seven thousand and a story going back to the Roman period, at which time the early Watling St (now the A-5) passed by the town. At present Leighton Buzzard is connected to the adjoining town of Linslade and it is roughly midway between Luton and Milton Keynes (Bucks), it lies very close to the Chilterns (Chiltern Hills) and has a significant sand quarrying industry.
