Set in the county of Beds, the smallish town of Leighton Buzzard sits right on the county boundary between Bucks and Bedfordshire, on the Grand Union Canal, Leighton Buzzard has a population close to 37,000 and a past harping back to Roman times, at which time the Roman built Watling St (now the A-5) passed the town. Today Leighton Buzzard is coupled with the adjacent town of Linslade it is roughly midway between Milton Keynes (Buckinghamshire) and Luton (Beds), it is placed close to the Chilterns and boasts a substantial quarrying industry (sand).

The Manors of Leighton were leased to an assortment of tenants through the ages, such as the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who backed Charles I during the Civil War (1642-1645).
