Review of Leighton Buzzard:

Leighton Buzzard Information:

Location: Bedfordshire, England, United Kingdom.

Population: 37,000

Found in the county of Beds, the bustling town of Leighton Buzzard sits close to the county boundary between Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, on the Grand Union Canal, Leighton Buzzard has a resident population of approximately thirty seven thousand and a story harping back to the times of the Romans, at which time the early Watling St (now the A-5) passed by the town. These days Leighton Buzzard is attached to the neighbouring town of Linslade and it is approximately midway between Milton Keynes (Buckinghamshire) and Luton, it stands next to the Chiltern Hills (Chilterns) and has a substantial sand quarrying industry.

Leighton Buzzard History: It is thought that there had been settlements in or around what's now known as Leighton Buzzard going back to unrecorded times, early relics and coins unearthed in close proximity give proof of this. The ancient Watling Street (engineered by the Romans), now identified as the A5, passed through neighbouring Hockliffe and Dunstable about 2,000 in years past, and the Romans will have at least known of Leighton Buzzard as they passed it.

The Romans were eventually followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was they who set up the market place in about the 10th Century, and artefacts stumbled upon mean that they were settling the local area quite possibly from the sixth century. The village as it was wasn't referred to until 906 when the Danes made a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book named Leighton Manor.

The parish of Leighton Buzzard, typically, comprised a way bigger area than simply the town by itself, and incorporated the hamlets of Billington, Heath & Reach, Stanbridge and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the town's name seems to originated from the old English for "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" portion was not to be added before the 12th Century at which time the Dean of Lincoln had to differentiate it from an extra "Leighton" which was inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton would be tenanted to a variety of tenants over the centuries, such as the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who assisted Charles I through the English Civil War (1642-1645).

Leighton Buzzard trainLeighton Buzzard grew even bigger over the following decades and the coming of a canal and a railway line in the 19th Century saw the town develop and expand. Modern Leighton Buzzard is a busy market town that's witnessed increased development in the past several years.
