Located in the county of Beds in the East of England, the town of Leighton Buzzard stands right on the county boundary between Bucks and Bedfordshire, beside the Grand Union Canal, it has a populace of around thirty seven thousand and a story harping back to Roman days, at which time the ancient A5 (then known as Watling Street) passed the town. Leighton Buzzard History: It is considered that there existed settlements in or around what's now called Leighton Buzzard stretching back to unrecorded times, old artifacts and coins unearthed in the area give proof of this fact. The historical Watling Street (fashioned by the Romans), now termed the A5, ran through the nearby settlements of Hockliffe and Dunstable over 2,000 yrs ago, and the Romans will have at least known of the Leighton Buzzard settlement during those times.

The Anglo-Saxons followed after the Romans, and it was them who set up a market sometime in the tenth century, and antiquities uncovered show that they were inhabiting the vicinity most probably from the 6th Century. The village as it was then isn't described until 906 after the Danes signed a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book (1086) specified Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, typically, embraced a much larger area than just the town itself, and covered the hamlets of Heath & Reach, Stanbridge, Billington and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the name of the town seems to been taken from the old English for "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" section did not get included prior to the 12th Century at which time the Dean of Lincoln needed to differentiate it from a different "Leighton" which was within his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were tenanted to numerous tenants through the years, including the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who assisted Charles I during the Civil War (1642-1645).

Leighton Buzzard trainThe settlement carried on growing over the coming years and the establishing of of a canal and a railway during the Nineteenth Century saw the town evolve and develop.
