Found in the county of Bedfordshire, the smallish town of Leighton Buzzard stands very close to the county boundary in between Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire, on the Grand Union Canal, Leighton Buzzard has a populace of about 37,000 and a story harping back to the Roman period, at which time the Roman built Watling Street (now the A-5) passed by the town. The Story of Leighton Buzzard: It is felt that there were settlements in or around what is now called Leighton Buzzard long ago in prehistoric times, historical artifacts and coinage stumbled on in the area give evidence of this fact. The early Watling Street (made by the Romans), now known as the A5, went through the nearby areas of Dunstable and Hockliffe over two thousand years back, and the Romans would have at the very least been aware of the village at that time.

The Anglo-Saxons followed the Romans, and it was they who created the market place during the 10th Century, and artefacts uncovered suggest that they were residing in the region in all likelihood from the sixth century. The commune existing then wasn't listed until 906 at which time the Danes signed a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the 1086 Domesday Book mentioned Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, typically, embodied a substantially greater area than merely the town by itself, and integrated the hamlets of Stanbridge, Heath & Reach, Eggington and BIllington. The "Leighton" in the town's name is thought to come from the old English for "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" portion wouldn't be inserted up until the twelfth century after the Dean of Lincoln was required to distinguish it from yet another "Leighton" that he had within his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were let to various tenants over the generations, such as the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who backed Charles I throughout the Civil War (1642-1645).
