Found in the county of Beds in the East of England, the town of Leighton Buzzard stands very close to the boundary in between Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, on the banks of the Grand Union Canal, the town has a population of approximately thirty seven thousand and a story harping back to the Roman era, at which time the historical Watling Street (now the A-5) passed the town. At present Leighton Buzzard is connected to the adjoining town of Linslade and it's roughly midway between Milton Keynes (Buckinghamshire) and Luton (Bedfordshire), it is found very close to the Chiltern Hills and boasts a significant sand quarrying industry.

Leighton Buzzard History: It's believed that there were settlements in or around what is now called Leighton Buzzard way back in prehistoric times, age-old artifacts and coins stumbled upon in the area give evidence of this fact. The olden Watling Street (engineered by the Romans), now named the A5, cut through the close by settlements of Dunstable and Hockliffe some 2,000 yrs ago, and the Romans will have at the very least known of the village as they passed it.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, in the past, covered a way wider area than only the town by itself, and comprised the settlements of Heath & Reach, Stanbridge, Billington and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the town's name appears to been taken from the old English for "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" part wouldn't be put on prior to the twelfth century after the Dean of Lincoln had to differentiate it from yet another "Leighton" that existed within his diocese. The Manors of Leighton would be tenanted to an assortment of tenants through the eras, including the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who endorsed Charles I during the Civil War (1642-1645).
