Located in the county of Beds, the town of Leighton Buzzard is near the county border betwixt Beds and Bucks, on the banks of the Grand Union Canal, it has a resident population of about thirty seven thousand and a past harping back to the Roman era, when the ancient A5 (then known as Watling Street) passed the town. Presently Leighton Buzzard is connected to the neighbouring town of Linslade and it's about mid-way between Milton Keynes and Luton, it lays near the Chilterns and has a significant sand quarrying industry.

The Story of Leighton Buzzard: It is thought that there existed settlements in and near to what is now called Leighton Buzzard harping back to unrecorded times, old artefacts and coinage stumbled upon in the area give proof of this. The historical Watling Street (engineered by the Romans), now termed the A5, passed through neighbouring Dunstable and Hockliffe about two thousand in years past, and the Romans will have at least known of Leighton Buzzard at that time.

The Anglo-Saxons followed the Romans, and it was the Anglo-Saxons who were using the market place in around the 10th Century, and antiquities discovered show that they were staying in the local area more than likely since the sixth century. The village as it was then was not reported till 906 when the Danes signed a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book (1086) documented Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, traditionally, covered a way greater area compared to the town by itself, and integrated the hamlets of Eggington, Standbridge, Billington and Heath & Reach. The "Leighton" in the town's name appears to derived from the old English for "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" section wouldn't be appended till the twelfth century after the Dean of Lincoln needed to differentiate it from the other "Leighton" which existed inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton would be leased to a variety of tenants through the eras, for example the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who endorsed Charles I in the English Civil War (1642-1645).

Leighton Buzzard trainLeighton Buzzard continued to grow during the following years and the building of a canal and a railway line in the Nineteenth Century saw the town expand and develop.
