Found in the county of Bedfordshire in the East of England, the charming town of Leighton Buzzard lays near to the county border in between Bucks and Bedfordshire, on the banks of the Grand Union Canal, Leighton Buzzard has a populace of around thirty seven thousand and a past harping back to the Roman era, when the Roman built Watling St (now the A-5) passed the town. Leighton Buzzard Historic Past: It's felt that there had been settlements in and near to what is now named Leighton Buzzard stretching back to unrecorded times, historic artifacts and coins uncovered nearby offer proof of this. The old Watling Street (engineered by the Romans), now known as the A5, passed through the nearby areas of Dunstable and Hockliffe around 2,000 years ago, and the Romans would have at least been aware of the Leighton Buzzard settlement at that time.

The Romans were ultimately followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was Saxons who created a market during the 10th Century, and artifacts discovered suggest that they were residing in the vicinity most probably from the 6th Century. The settlement as it was was not observed till 906 after the Danes signed a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the 1086 Domesday Book documented Leighton Manor.

The parish of Leighton Buzzard, in times past, covered a substantially larger area compared to the town by itself, and integrated the settlements of Eggington, Standbridge, Billington and Heath & Reach. The "Leighton" in the name of the town seems to come from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" section wouldn't be put on until the 12th Century when the Dean of Lincoln found it beneficial to distinguish it from a different "Leighton" which was within his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were leased to a variety of tenants through the generations, like the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who helped Charles I through the English Civil War (1642-1645).
