Based in the county of Bedfordshire in the East of England, the smallish town of Leighton Buzzard lies right on the county border betwixt Buckinghamshire and Beds, on the Grand Union Canal, Leighton Buzzard has a populace of approximately thirty seven thousand and a heritage harping back to the Roman period, when the historic Watling St (now the A-5) passed by the town. Presently Leighton Buzzard is pretty much connected to the neighbouring town of Linslade and it's approximately midway between Milton Keynes and Luton, it is located near the Chiltern Hills (Chilterns) and boasts a substantial sand quarrying industry.

The Story of Leighton Buzzard: It's felt that there had been settlements in and close to what is now called Leighton Buzzard long ago in unrecorded times, age-old artifacts and coins discovered in close proximity show evidence of this. The age-old Watling Street (engineered by the Romans), now called the A5, passed through the neighbouring areas of Hockliffe and Dunstable over 2,000 yrs ago, and the Romans will have at the very least known of the village at this time.

The Romans were in turn followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was Saxons who used the market place sometime in the 10th Century, and artifacts stumbled on show that they were staying in the neighbourhood in all likelihood from the sixth century. The commune existing at this time was not documented till 906 at which time the Danes produced a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book documented Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, over the years, encompassed a considerably wider area than just the town alone, and integrated the hamlets of Stanbridge, Billington, Eggington and Heath & Reach. The "Leighton" in the town's name appears to derived from the old English for "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" portion wouldn't be added on till the 12th Century after the Dean of Lincoln found it desirable to differentiate it from a different "Leighton" that he had within his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were let to many different tenants through the centuries, for example the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who helped Charles I through the Civil War (1642-1645).
