Based in the county of Beds in the East of England, the bustling town of Leighton Buzzard sits right on the county border in between Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire, on the banks of the Grand Union Canal, Leighton Buzzard has a populace close to 37,000 and a past going back to the times of the Romans, when the historical A5 (then known as Watling St) passed the town. The Story of Leighton Buzzard: It is thought that there had been settlements in and near to what is now called Leighton Buzzard stretching back to unrecorded times, early artifacts and coins stumbled upon nearby show proof of this fact. The historical Watling Street (crafted by the Romans), now known as the A5, passed through the nearby areas of Dunstable and Hockliffe over two thousand years back, and the Romans should have at least been aware of the village during those times.

The Romans were followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was Saxons who used a market during the tenth century, and artefacts uncovered suggest that they were staying in the area probably since the 6th Century. The village as such was not remarked upon till 906 at which time the Danes made a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book of 1086 reported Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, traditionally, comprised a way greater area compared to the town itself, and integrated the settlements of Billington, Stanbridge, Heath & Reach and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the name of the town may very well have derived from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" component wasn't put in up until the twelfth century after the Dean of Lincoln had to differentiate it from another "Leighton" which was within his diocese. The Manors of Leighton would be let to a great many tenants through the generations, such as the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who supported Charles I throughout the English Civil War (1642-1645).

Leighton Buzzard trainThe town grew even larger throughout the succeeding years and the appearance of a railway and a canal in the 19th Century saw it expand and develop. Today's Leighton Buzzard can be referred to as a blooming market town that's seen greater development in recent times.
