Located in the county of Beds in the East of England, the market town of Leighton Buzzard lays near the county border between Bedfordshire and Bucks, on the Grand Union Canal, it has a populace of approximately thirty seven thousand and a history extending back to Roman times, when the early Watling St (now the A-5) passed the town. The Story of Leighton Buzzard: It is considered that there had been settlements in and near to what is now named Leighton Buzzard harping back to prehistoric times, age-old relics and coinage discovered in the area show proof of this fact. The age-old Watling Street (put up by the Romans), now referred to as the A5, passed through the nearby settlements of Dunstable and Hockliffe roughly 2,000 in years past, and the Romans would have at least known of the Leighton Buzzard settlement at that time.

The Romans were in turn followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was they who were using a market during the tenth century, and artefacts stumbled upon show that they were residing in the local area undoubtedly since the sixth century. The settlement as it was then isn't remarked upon till 906 after the Danes produced a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the 1086 Domesday Book mentioned Leighton Manor.

The parish of Leighton Buzzard, over time, comprised a far wider area than merely the town alone, and covered the hamlets of Billington, Heath & Reach, Stanbridge and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the name may well have come from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" piece did not get put on till the twelfth century at which time the Dean of Lincoln was required to differentiate it from a second "Leighton" which he had within his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were tenanted to a number of tenants through the generations, including the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who helped Charles I during the Civil War (1642-1645).
