Review of Leighton Buzzard:

Leighton Buzzard Facts:

Location: Bedfordshire, England, UK.

Population: 37,000

Located in the county of Bedfordshire in the East of England, the town of Leighton Buzzard stands near to the county boundary between Bucks and Beds, on the banks of the Grand Union Canal, it has a resident population of approximately thirty seven thousand and a historic past going back to Roman days, at which time the historical A5 (then known as Watling Street) passed by the town. Today Leighton Buzzard is more or less connected to the neighbouring town of Linslade and is roughly halfway between Milton Keynes (Bucks) and Luton, it is located near to the Chilterns (Chiltern Hills) and has a significant quarrying industry (sand).

The Story of Leighton Buzzard: It's thought that there were settlements in and close to what's now known as Leighton Buzzard long ago in unrecorded times, historic artifacts and coins found near by give evidence of this. The historical Watling Street (put up by the Romans), now referred to as the A5, passed through the neighbouring settlements of Dunstable and Hockliffe around about two thousand years ago, and the Romans will have at the very least known of Leighton Buzzard during those times.

The Romans were in turn followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was they who used a market during the tenth century, and relics unearthed suggest that they were settling the region perhaps since the 6th Century. The village as it was then isn't documented until 906 at which time the Danes produced a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book (1086) identified Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, in the past, embodied a way bigger area than simply the town alone, and comprised the settlements of Heath & Reach, Billington, Stanbridge and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the name seems to been taken from the old English for "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" element wouldn't be added on up until the twelfth century after the Dean of Lincoln needed to differentiate it from the other "Leighton" which he had inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton would be let to a number of tenants through the generations, such as the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who endorsed Charles I during the Civil War (1642-1645).

Leighton Buzzard trainThe settlement carried on expanding throughout the coming years and the establishing of of a canal and a railway line in the Nineteenth Century saw it evolve and develop. Twenty-first century Leighton Buzzard can be termed a prospering market town that has seen accelerated development in the recent past.
