Located in the county of Beds in the East of England, the quiet town of Leighton Buzzard is right on the boundary betwixt Buckinghamshire and Beds, beside the Grand Union Canal, it has a population of around 37,000 and a heritage going back to the Roman era, when the Roman built Watling Street (now the A-5) passed by the town. These days Leighton Buzzard is attached to the nearby town of Linslade and it is roughly mid-way between Milton Keynes and Luton, it is found next to the Chiltern Hills (Chilterns) and boasts a vital quarrying industry (sand).

The Story of Leighton Buzzard: It's considered that there had been settlements in or around what's now known as Leighton Buzzard long ago in prehistoric times, age-old relics and coinage found in close proximity show proof of this fact. The age old Watling Street (set up by the Romans), now called the A5, cut through the close by settlements of Hockliffe and Dunstable roughly 2,000 in years past, and the Romans will have at least been aware of the village at that time.

The Anglo-Saxons came after the Romans, and it was Saxons who set up a market during the tenth century, and relics found show that they were inhabiting the neighbourhood quite likely since the 6th Century. The commune as it was isn't documented until 906 when the Danes signed a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book of 1086 mentioned Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, in the past, encompassed a far greater area compared to the town itself, and consisted of the settlements of Billington, Heath & Reach, Stanbridge and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the town's name is thought to originated from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" section did not get put on until the twelfth century after the Dean of Lincoln had to distinguish it from yet another "Leighton" that he had inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were let to many different tenants through the eras, including the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who supported Charles I throughout the Civil War (1642-1645).
