Located in the county of Beds in the East of England, the town of Leighton Buzzard sits very close to the county boundary betwixt Bucks and Bedfordshire, beside the Grand Union Canal, the town has a resident population close to thirty seven thousand and a heritage harping back to the days of the Romans, at which time the ancient A5 (then known as Watling St) passed the town. These days Leighton Buzzard is attached to the adjoining town of Linslade it is roughly halfway between Luton and Milton Keynes (Buckinghamshire), it can be found next to the Chilterns (Chiltern Hills) and has a substantial quarrying industry (sand).

The Story of Leighton Buzzard: It's felt that there existed settlements in or around what is now named Leighton Buzzard going back to prehistoric times, historical relics and coinage stumbled upon near by show evidence of this. The historical Watling Street (established by the Romans), now called the A5, came through close by Dunstable and Hockliffe about 2,000 yrs ago, and the Romans would have at least been aware of Leighton Buzzard at that time.

The Anglo-Saxons followed after the Romans, and it was the Anglo-Saxons who used the market place in around the tenth century, and artefacts discovered mean that they were dwelling in the neighbourhood more than likely since the sixth century. The village as it was is not reported till 906 when the Danes made a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book recognized Leighton Manor.

The parish of Leighton Buzzard, in the past, embraced a substantially greater area than simply the town by itself, and contained the settlements of Heath & Reach, Billington, Stanbridge and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the name could have come from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" portion was not to be added on up until the 12th Century after the Dean of Lincoln needed to differentiate it from the other "Leighton" which existed within his diocese. The Manors of Leighton would be leased to a number of tenants through the centuries, such as the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who endorsed Charles I in the English Civil War (1642-1645).
