Found in the county of Beds in the East of England, the charming town of Leighton Buzzard sits near to the county boundary betwixt Bucks and Beds, beside the Grand Union Canal, the town has a populace of around thirty seven thousand and a story going back to Roman times, when the historic A5 (then known as Watling St) passed by the town. The History of Leighton Buzzard: It is felt that there existed settlements in and close to what's now named Leighton Buzzard long ago in prehistoric times, historical artefacts and coinage stumbled upon in the area give proof of this fact. The olden Watling Street (built by the Romans), now identified as the A5, passed through the close by areas of Hockliffe and Dunstable around about 2,000 in years past, and the Romans will have at least known of Leighton Buzzard at that time.

The Anglo-Saxons came after the Romans, and it was they who set up a market sometime in the 10th Century, and antiquities uncovered show that they were inhabiting the locale most likely since the sixth century. The commune as it was isn't listed until 906 after the Danes produced a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book of 1086 recognised Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, typically, encompassed a way greater area than only the town alone, and contained the hamlets of Stanbridge, Billington, Eggington and Heath & Reach. The "Leighton" in the name of the town seems to come from the old English for "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" component wouldn't be appended till the twelfth century when the Dean of Lincoln had to differentiate it from the other "Leighton" which existed inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were tenanted to several tenants through the eras, such as the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who endorsed Charles I in the Civil War (1642-1645).

Leighton Buzzard trainLeighton Buzzard continued to grow during the coming years and the arrival of a canal and a railway line in the 19th Century saw the town grow and develop. Present day Leighton Buzzard can be termed a busy market town that's seen improved development in the last few years.
