Located in the county of Beds, the quiet town of Leighton Buzzard lays near the border betwixt Beds and Buckinghamshire, on the banks of the Grand Union Canal, it has a population of approximately 37,000 and a history stretching back to Roman days, when the historical Watling Street (now the A-5) passed by the town. The History of Leighton Buzzard: It is thought that there were settlements in and close to what is now called Leighton Buzzard going back to unrecorded times, historical relics and coinage stumbled on in the area offer evidence of this fact. The old Watling Street (erected by the Romans), now referred to as the A5, ran through the close by areas of Dunstable and Hockliffe approximately two thousand years ago, and the Romans would have at least been aware of Leighton Buzzard at this time.

The Romans were in turn followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was Saxons who were using the market place sometime in the 10th Century, and relics uncovered show that they were residing in the neighbourhood perhaps since the sixth century. The commune as it was is not listed until 906 after the Danes wrote a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book reported Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, over time, incorporated a substantially larger area than just the town alone, and integrated the hamlets of Stanbridge, Heath & Reach, Eggington and BIllington. The "Leighton" in the name is thought to been taken from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" piece wouldn't be inserted until the twelfth century at which time the Dean of Lincoln was required to distinguish it from the other "Leighton" that he had inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton would be tenanted to an assortment of tenants through the eras, like the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who backed Charles I through the Civil War (1642-1645).
