Review of Leighton Buzzard:

Leighton Buzzard Facts:

Location: Bedfordshire (Beds), East of England, United Kingdom.

Population: 37,000

Located in the county of Bedfordshire, the tranquil town of Leighton Buzzard lies near the boundary between Bucks and Beds, beside the Grand Union Canal, Leighton Buzzard has a population of approximately 37,000 and a historic past extending back to the Roman era, when the Roman built Watling St (now the A-5) passed by the town. Nowadays Leighton Buzzard is connected to the adjacent town of Linslade and it's roughly halfway between Luton (Bedfordshire) and Milton Keynes (Bucks), it is situated close to the Chiltern Hills (Chilterns) and boasts a substantial quarrying industry (sand).

The Story of Leighton Buzzard: It's believed that there had been settlements in or around what is now known as Leighton Buzzard long ago in unrecorded times, age-old artifacts and coins stumbled on near by give proof of this. The age old Watling Street (made by the Romans), now termed the A5, went through the close by areas of Dunstable and Hockliffe around about two thousand years back, and the Romans will have at least been aware of Leighton Buzzard during those times.

The Anglo-Saxons followed the Romans, and it was they who introduced a market in about the 10th Century, and artifacts discovered suggest that they were residing in the local area very likely since the 6th Century. The village as such wasn't remarked upon until 906 when the Danes made a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book of 1086 described Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, typically, embodied a far bigger area than simply the town alone, and incorporated the hamlets of Stanbridge, Eggington, Heath & Reach and Billington. The "Leighton" in the town's name is thought to originated from the old English for "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" piece wasn't appended up until the 12th Century when the Dean of Lincoln was required to differentiate it from a different "Leighton" that existed inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton would be leased to a great many tenants through the centuries, such as the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who assisted Charles I in the Civil War (1642-1645).

Leighton Buzzard trainThe town carried on expanding through the ensuing years and the building of a railway and a canal in the 19th Century saw it evolve and develop. Twenty-first century Leighton Buzzard is a flourishing market town that has witnessed increased development in the past few years.
