Located in the county of Beds, the quiet town of Leighton Buzzard stands right on the county boundary betwixt Buckinghamshire and Beds, on the banks of the Grand Union Canal, it has a populace of approximately thirty seven thousand and a past going back to the era of the Romans, at which time the historic A5 (then known as Watling Street) passed by the town. Presently Leighton Buzzard is linked to the adjacent town of Linslade and it's roughly halfway between Milton Keynes and Luton, it is placed very close to the Chilterns and has a substantial sand quarrying industry.

Leighton Buzzard Through the Ages: It's believed that there were settlements in and close to what is now called Leighton Buzzard harping back to unrecorded times, ancient artefacts and coinage stumbled upon nearby show evidence of this fact. The "Leighton" in the name appears to originated from the old English for "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" portion was not put on until the 12th Century at which time the Dean of Lincoln was required to distinguish it from a different "Leighton" which existed within his diocese. The Manors of Leighton would be let to an assortment of tenants over the eras, like the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who assisted Charles I in the English Civil War (1642-1645).
