Found in the county of Beds, the busy town of Leighton Buzzard stands right on the border between Bucks and Bedfordshire, on the Grand Union Canal, Leighton Buzzard has a populace of around thirty seven thousand and a story stretching back to Roman times, at which time the Roman built Watling St (now the A-5) passed the town. The History of Leighton Buzzard: It's felt that there were settlements in and near to what's now named Leighton Buzzard way back in unrecorded times, ancient artifacts and coins stumbled on nearby offer evidence of this. The old Watling Street (fashioned by the Romans), now referred to as the A5, went through the close by towns of Dunstable and Hockliffe approximately 2,000 in years past, and the Romans will have at the very least been aware of the village during those times.

The Anglo-Saxons followed the Romans, and it was the Anglo-Saxons who used a market in around the 10th Century, and relics picked up reveal that they were inhabiting the region perhaps since the sixth century. The village existing at that time wasn't cited till 906 after the Danes produced a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book of 1086 mentioned Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, over time, embodied a significantly greater area than just the town alone, and covered the settlements of Stanbridge, Heath & Reach, Eggington and BIllington. The "Leighton" in the town's name is thought to originated from the old English for "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" portion did not get added on prior to the 12th Century when the Dean of Lincoln needed to distinguish it from another "Leighton" that he had within his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were tenanted to a number of tenants through the ages, like the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who followed Charles I throughout the English Civil War (1642-1645).
