Set in the county of Beds in the East of England, the small town of Leighton Buzzard lays close to the boundary between Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, on the banks of the Grand Union Canal, Leighton Buzzard has a resident population close to 37,000 and a past harping back to the times of the Romans, when the historical Watling St (now the A-5) passed by the town. The Story of Leighton Buzzard: It's thought that there were settlements in and near to what's now named Leighton Buzzard way back in unrecorded times, old artefacts and coinage stumbled on near by give proof of this. The old Watling Street (established by the Romans), now called the A5, passed through neighbouring Hockliffe and Dunstable approximately 2,000 years ago, and the Romans will have at least known of Leighton Buzzard at this time.

The Romans were in turn followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was them who used the market place during the tenth century, and relics stumbled on suggest that they were settling the region perhaps from the sixth century. The commune existing at this time wasn't mentioned until 906 after the Danes made a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the 1086 Domesday Book listed Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, over time, embodied a way greater area than just the town alone, and covered the hamlets of Eggington, Standbridge, Billington and Heath & Reach. The "Leighton" in the name of the town is thought to come from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" piece did not get added on before the 12th Century at which time the Dean of Lincoln wanted to differentiate it from the other "Leighton" that existed inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton would be let to a variety of tenants over the generations, such as the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who supported Charles I in the English Civil War (1642-1645).
