Based in the county of Beds in the East of England, the charming town of Leighton Buzzard lays near to the county boundary betwixt Bedfordshire and Bucks, beside the Grand Union Canal, Leighton Buzzard has a population of around thirty seven thousand and a story going back to the Roman period, when the historical Watling Street (now the A-5) passed the town. The age old Watling Street (made by the Romans), now identified as the A5, passed through the close by settlements of Dunstable and Hockliffe about 2,000 years back, and the Romans would have at least known of the Leighton Buzzard settlement at that time.

The Anglo-Saxons followed the Romans, and it was Saxons who developed a market sometime in the 10th Century, and artefacts stumbled upon reveal that they were settling the local area almost certainly from the sixth century. The village as such was not described until 906 at which time the Danes wrote a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the 1086 Domesday Book talked about Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, traditionally, incorporated a far larger area than simply the town itself, and incorporated the settlements of Stanbridge, Billington, Eggington and Heath & Reach. The "Leighton" in the town's name may possibly have come from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" piece wouldn't be included before the twelfth century when the Dean of Lincoln needed to distinguish it from a different "Leighton" that was inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were tenanted to an assortment of tenants over the ages, like the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who assisted Charles I during the Civil War (1642-1645).

Leighton Buzzard trainThe settlement continued to grow throughout the coming years and the building of a canal and a railway line in the Nineteenth Century saw it develop and develop. Current day Leighton Buzzard is a blooming market town that has seen improved development in recent times.
