Located in the county of Beds in the East of England, the quiet town of Leighton Buzzard is near to the county border between Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, on the Grand Union Canal, it has a resident population of around 37,000 and a story harping back to Roman times, at which time the historic Watling Street (now the A-5) passed the town. Leighton Buzzard History: It is thought that there existed settlements in and near to what's now known as Leighton Buzzard long ago in prehistoric times, age-old artefacts and coins found in close proximity show evidence of this fact. The age old Watling Street (established by the Romans), now termed the A5, passed through the nearby areas of Hockliffe and Dunstable some 2,000 yrs ago, and the Romans will have at least known of the village during those times.

The Romans were in turn followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was Saxons who set up the market place sometime in the tenth century, and relics unearthed denote that they were inhabiting the local area most likely since the sixth century. The commune as it was wasn't documented till 906 when the Danes made a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the 1086 Domesday Book reported Leighton Manor.

The ecclesiastical parish of Leighton Buzzard, over the years, covered a significantly larger area than only the town itself, and included the hamlets of Heath & Reach, Stanbridge, Billington and Eggington. The "Leighton" in the name may possibly have come from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" component was not put on prior to the twelfth century when the Dean of Lincoln needed to distinguish it from an extra "Leighton" which existed inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were let to a great many tenants through the eras, for example the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who endorsed Charles I during the Civil War (1642-1645).

Leighton Buzzard trainLeighton Buzzard carried on growing throughout the following years and the building of a railway service and a canal in the 19th Century saw the town develop and expand.
