Set in the county of Beds in the East of England, the bustling town of Leighton Buzzard lies near to the county boundary betwixt Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, on the Grand Union Canal, the town has a population of about thirty seven thousand and a story extending back to Roman times, at which time the historic Watling St (now the A-5) passed by the town. Presently Leighton Buzzard is coupled with the adjacent town of Linslade and it is roughly halfway between Luton and Milton Keynes, it can be found very close to the Chilterns and has a substantial sand quarrying industry.

The History of Leighton Buzzard: It is believed that there existed settlements in and close to what's now known as Leighton Buzzard long ago in unrecorded times, historic artefacts and coinage stumbled upon nearby show evidence of this. The age-old Watling Street (erected by the Romans), now named the A5, passed through the nearby towns of Hockliffe and Dunstable roughly 2,000 in years past, and the Romans would have at the very least known of Leighton Buzzard at this time.

The Romans were in turn followed by the Anglo-Saxons, and it was them who created the market place sometime in the 10th Century, and antiquities discovered show that they were dwelling in the neighbourhood in all probability since the 6th Century. The settlement as it was then was not discussed until 906 at which time the Danes wrote a peace treaty at Tiddenfoot, the Domesday Book recognized Leighton Manor.

The parish of Leighton Buzzard, in the past, embraced a much bigger area than just the town itself, and included the hamlets of Stanbridge, Billington, Eggington and Heath & Reach. The "Leighton" in the name of the town appears to derived from the old English meaning "a clearing in the woods", the "Buzzard" component was not to be included prior to the 12th Century when the Dean of Lincoln was required to distinguish it from a second "Leighton" which existed inside his diocese. The Manors of Leighton were leased to an assortment of tenants through the centuries, such as the Leighs of Stoneleigh, who supported Charles I throughout the English Civil War (1642-1645).

Leighton Buzzard trainThe town carried on expanding through the succeeding years and the appearance of a canal and a railway line during the 19th Century saw the town develop and expand. Contemporary Leighton Buzzard can be referred to as a bustling market town that has witnessed increased development in recent times.
